FREDERICK CHEN
Frederick Chen, an 11-year-old prodigy, began his musical journey at the age of five under the guidance of his father, Dr. Xing Chen. By the age of nine, he had already achieved remarkable success, earning First-Class Honors with Distinction after passing Level 10 of the Royal Conservatory of Music piano exam.
Frederick’s passion and dedication to music have earned him numerous prestigious awards. In 2024, he received First Prize at both the Pacific Musical Society Competition and the 11th ENKOR International Music Competition. His talent continued to flourish in 2025, when he was awarded the Gold Prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition in Asia.
He made his orchestral debut in Tokyo, Japan, performing Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor, marking a significant milestone in his young career.
Frederick currently studies under the mentorship of John McCarthy, Director Emeritus of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and takes frequent lessons with Dr. Steven Spooner at the Peabody Institute. His musical development is further enriched through masterclasses with Alexander Kobrin and private lessons with distinguished pianists such as Michelle Cann, Winston Choi, and Roberto Plano.
Beyond music, Frederick is a multi-talented individual. He is an accomplished athlete, actively competing in alpine skiing in the U.S. Far West U12 League and playing competitive soccer in the Pre-ECNL League. Off the slopes and the field, he is an avid reader who enjoys immersing himself in books.
Frederick is currently in the fifth grade at Amador Elementary School in Dublin, California, and is enrolled in the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program.
